When Elizabeth Heller, author of mindfulness activity books for kids called Breathe Move Journal, was about to submit the manuscript to her publisher, she paused – and decided she wanted to take control of her own fate by starting a small business. Elizabeth immediately turned to SCORE to launch and grow her venture. Four years later, with SCORE’s help, Breathe Move Journal – and Elizabeth – are thriving.
After Isabel Marcheselli got nationally certified as a piano teacher by Music Teachers National Association, she began to seek out more opportunities to teach piano. Since she had moved to Western Mass from New York, she felt unfamiliar with the region. Isabel turned to SCORE to learn the basics of business planning and networking, and to tackle the overwhelming tasks ahead.
When Alice Rich Lewis founded Access Grant Writing LLC, she wanted to help nonprofits strengthen their ability to secure crucial funding. From researching funders and writing proposals to guiding overall fundraising strategy, Alice gives clients the tools to thrive. With SCORE’s guidance, she learned how to market her services, build client relationships, and navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. Since 2021, her work has helped human service nonprofits and municipalities raise more than $17 million in grants and sponsorships—proving the power of pairing expertise with mentorship.
