Hemlock Creek is an audio engineering company that provides services to podcast and video game creators. This year, the company created and distributed an original horror-theme drama podcast series called Liars & Leeches.
During my education in audio production, I encountered the absurd notion that success in the industry was confined to just three cities: New York, Los Angeles, or Nashville. I couldn't accept the idea that I would have to relocate to only these specific locations to thrive in this field. There was a significant need for remote audio services, so I founded Hemlock Creek Productions to cater to audio creators and talent beyond the confines of those three cities.
My one-stop remote studio aims to break down geographical barriers and create opportunities for talented individuals globally, fostering a more inclusive and diverse audio production community.
I had technical skills as an audio engineer through my school education, but zero experience when it came to running a business. I didn't know where to turn for help after graduating and then I heard about SCORE. In 2019, I was matched with my SCORE mentor Gary. I was just completely blown away with the support from both SCORE and Gary.
Gary's helped me with basically every facet of my business from creating a business plan to officially registering as an LLC to finding contractors with whom to work. His professional advice and care helped me to launch my business in January 2020. And when Covid hit. Gary’s advice helped me weather the pandemic. I'm not sure if my business would have survived otherwise. Since then, Hemlock Creek Productions has won numerous awards for our audio services and has written, produced and distributed an original (and award-winning) podcast.
There's a lot to appreciate, but I'd say the biggest thing is how accommodating he's been. Even before Covid, we met virtually because I had a job that started at 6 am. He's not just about sharing what he knows, like helping me figure out the legal stuff for my business or how to market it. He's also unafraid to admit when he doesn't know something and connect me with another SCORE mentor for topics like podcast marketing.
