I am fortunate enough to work for a company that I enjoy working for and one of the key components to my day (apart from the team I work with) is the time I spend on the road commuting. As I drove into work this morning, I reflected on all the blessings around me. This seems counter intuitive as the gas price these days force an extra car payment into everyone’s household budget without the benefit of the car but look around at where we live and where so many visitors enjoy visiting. If you spend a moment to reflect, you quickly discover that we live in an area of rich opportunity and beauty. Summer is the “growing season,” the “water sports enjoyment season,” the “get outdoors and have fun season,” the “take a walk on the beach or trail season” and the “take a nap or enjoy a book in the hammock season.” We all enjoy the richness of summer. Everything about summer provides the balance for “those days” in winter. We find our own place and time to recharge and refocus. I am always encouraged by the growth and promise of the summer season. When talking to business owners in the area, the “winter” of COVID seems to be lifting a bit. Some businesses have been significantly impacted in a negative way over the last two years of challenges and remarkably some have never been busier. Additional staffing has been made available, and while not at “normal” levels of hiring opportunity, the ice is beginning to melt on staffing issues. Still the world around us continues to grow and flourish. New entrepreneurs enter the business environment with the seed of a new idea and the promise of a new adventure. One such entrepreneur recently purchased the “Circle M Meats” business on the south end of Wolverine. Jeff Gardner and his family are recently established in this business and the SCORE team had the pleasure of working with Jeff in this process. I should note that I am discussing this with Jeff’s permission and SCORE typically quietly goes about the business of helping businesses with little fanfare. So, when you get the chance – drive out to Circle M and meet Jeff and remember to enjoy the journey! I am sure he will be glad to meet you and tell you about the journey to become the latest local business owner. Tell him Tim sent you. The bacon (and other items in the meat case) is delicious.
