While on maternity leave with her first child, Chris Bhutta was inspired to build a company that helps women have positive, healthy pregnancy experiences. WellMom provides nutritional guidance, yoga and personal training services for moms and moms-to-be.
Bhutta partners with clients through a variety of methods, including in-home private sessions and online coaching. She has established specific objectives to keep the business moving forward and has implemented surveys as a method of listening closely to her clients’ needs.
Bhutta states that one of the best parts of SCORE is the ability to bounce ideas off her mentor, Ed Coleman. “One of the most challenging aspects of being an entrepreneur is being in it alone. I find myself plagued by self-doubt and sometimes lacking in self-confidence,” she says. Coleman helped Bhutta focus on the needs of her clients and provided a practical approach on ways she could expand services.
She encourages people to talk with other business owners. “I advise those looking to start a business to evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses as they relate to entrepreneurship,” she says.
