Sum Bar is a restaurant that focuses on providing consumers with Chinese cuisine dim sum and specialty cocktails.

What inspired you to start your business?

As a first-generation Asian American, Khailing felt familial pressure to pursue a corporate career rather than opening her own restaurant. However, she realized that by starting a restaurant, she would not only be fulfilling her dream but also honoring her parents and grandparents who immigrated to the United States. With the support of her community and SCORE, Khailing felt confident in her ability to open a successful dim sum restaurant.

During the start-up phase of Sum Bar, Khailing found SCORE to be a reliable source of support. Whether it was her mentor or the online resources available, she felt confident she had a foundation to rely on. She looks forward to gaining experience and knowledge through this process so that she can, in turn, mentor others in the future.
