What do you do?

Nuflours bridges the gap between dietary restrictions and the universal love of dessert, with allergen-friendly baked goods that demonstrate exceptional product-market fit, and proudly take center stage at any table.

What inspired you to start your business?

Food is an integral part of how we connect to one another. Family dinners, lunch with an old friend, birthday parties, holidays, or simply grabbing a quick bite after a long day are all ways we share food and build community. For those who live with dietary restrictions, one of the primary challenges is feeling isolated from others because of food limitations. When I went gluten-free in 2007, I was afraid I’d lost that sense of connection for good. So I set about experimenting with making all the classic cakes and pastries I loved with gluten-free ingredients. The results were delicious! I began selling her creations at a farmer’s market stand and now Nuflours is a thriving business throughout the Northwest that continues to expand. Nuflours is committed to safe, ethical, and delectable baked goods for everyone, and I invite you to join me in our joyful commitment to gluten-free goodness.

What's special about your business?

We have changed what is possible with gluten-free baked goods, crafting delicious food that is exceptional for allergen-friendly, and delicious enough to share! We are truly an inclusive brand.

What have been the high and low points of being a business owner?

Launching a business is challenging; it requires incredible commitment and personal resilience. I have gained so much; I’ve surrounded myself with an amazing business community, and a great team that is dedicated to creating access to good gluten-free. The highs are absolutely worth the challenges.

What is your relationship with SCORE? SCORE client What influenced you to seek help from SCORE?

I heard about SCORE from a friend, and am always seeking resources to grow myself and my business.

What's great about my mentor?

Connecting with Ken has been an incredible opportunity for growth; he has broad business expertise. He is great at asking delving questions, challenging my assumptions, and holding me accountable. He has also been one of my biggest cheerleaders through some complicated times and is great at encouraging me while continuing to challenge me.  Ken is such an incredible human, I’m glad that I continue to have the opportunity to learn from him.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting a small business?

Be passionate! But make sure that underlying that passion you have a solid business thesis, know what sets you apart and above your competition, and have the underlying resilience and drive to get you where you want to go!

What have you learned from your experiences as a business owner?

Resilience is key. You control your own narrative, and only you can believe absolutely in your own success.
