My successes.

Back in November 2020, I kicked off my venture by securing my LLC. I intended to establish myself as a credible clinician in private practice. By January 2021, I shared my vision and strategies with some people special to me. Fast forward to 2022's end, and I'd set my sights on having at least three clients before the end of 2023.

The journey's been rewarding! We're in July 2023, and I've not just met but exceeded my goal. I'm now helping twenty-one clients navigate life, while still maintaining a part-time schedule.

SCORE provided valuable information: I used it in developing my business mission statement, and in learning about the financial aspects of my business. SCORE also helped me learn the fundamentals of operating a business.

With the information I've gained from SCORE, along with my mentor's valuable guidance, I see myself walking into full-time private practice, in the near future.

What do you do?

Pathway to Solutions (PTS) is a counseling and life coaching organization focused on providing services to help clients reach personal goals and ways to improve their mental health. We help individuals by providing quality mental health services.

Pathway to Solutions provides authentic coaching and counseling services. Coaching services include 1:1, groups, and self-love events for teens. Counseling services include individuals, families, and groups.  Pathway to Solutions also offers public speaking services and workshops, self-care retreats for women who are looking to step into that next dimension, and self-care boxes for individual or group sales.

Pathway to Solutions is dedicated to helping individuals find resources that best fit their life journey.  We value authentic honesty, confidentiality, integrity, and quality services.   Pathway creates a safe space that is relatable to women, children, youth, veterans, and men.

The organization is committed to meeting individuals where they are in life. PTS provides relatable and generic expertise with over 10 years of experience in mental health service.

What started out as a dream years ago is now a reality for me.

What inspired you to start your business?

Growing up in a small town in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, I was raised by my grandmother and later my mother. Despite the advantages and disadvantages of small-town living, the trauma I experienced later became the motivation I needed to become the person I am today.

After graduating high school in 2003, I applied to Johnson C. Smith University, but I couldn't afford the tuition.  Instead, I enlisted in the U.S. Army and left for Basic Training in Fort Jackson, SC. One week before graduation, I broke my femur (hip) bone, and my dreams were shattered.

I had to go through a lengthy rehabilitation, learning how to walk and do for myself again.

The road to recovery was long and difficult and I struggled with depression and anxiety for years. During this transition, I worked with a counselor and later began my own therapy. This traumatic event is what inspired me to become a therapist.

What influenced you to seek help from SCORE?

I had very little knowledge when it came to running a business.

  • I heard about SCORE in one of my Facebook clinicians' groups, so I decided to reach out.
  • Wanting guidance and accountability.
  • Workshops and business mentors.
  • Mentor: Ramona Fantini!!!
How SCORE helped.

I attended a social media workshop, a workshop for veterans, and a workshop for developing business plans. The workshops helped me because being a business owner is new to me.  I worked with my SCORE mentor in developing my business plan starting with the simplified version, then the detailed business plan.

SCORE provided valuable information: I used it in developing my business mission statement, and in learning about the financial aspects of my business. SCORE also helped me learn the fundamentals of operating a business.

What's great about my mentor?

Ramona Fantini has provided a great deal of advice and motivation. I think the latter is the most important aspect.  Before working with Ramona, I would think to myself “I'm just a small-town country girl.” Being a business owner would be one of those “firsts” for my family, so it all seemed impossible.

Ramona kept me (still does) in the loop for events and workshops. She helped me focus on my goals and watch for the results. Ramona guided me to work with others who could help, like a CPA and marketing.
