Leo's Honey Farm LLC, Leo Rodriguez
Hello, my name is Leo, and I never imagined that my hobby of beekeeping would lead me to where I am today. It all started with a few beehives in my backyard, just a simple passion for nature and the fascinating world of bees. As time went on, my interest grew, and I found myself becoming more and more involved in the art of beekeeping. Eventually, I made the leap from a hobbyist to a commercial beekeeper, expanding my operation and dedicating myself to the well-being of my bees.
As my business began to flourish, I caught the attention of almond growers in the area. They approached me, inquiring if I had more bees to offer for pollination. It was then that I saw an opportunity to expand my business even further. I started producing my own queen bees, ensuring the strength and quality of my hives. Word spread quickly, and soon other beekeepers were reaching out to me, asking if they could purchase queen bees from my thriving apiary.
Realizing that my venture was growing beyond my initial expectations, I understood the need for a deeper understanding of finance and record-keeping. Seeking guidance, I reached out to SCORE mentors who provided invaluable advice and support. Additionally, I enrolled in a comprehensive course in queen breeding and genetics at UC Davis Bee Biology Facility, known as the "Beehaven," where I delved into the intricate world of bee genetics and breeding.
As I continued on this unexpected journey, I found myself immersed in a world where the delicate balance of nature intertwined with the complexities of business and innovation. The buzzing of the bees became a symphony of productivity, and I became deeply invested in ensuring the health and vitality of my hives. Each day brought new challenges and triumphs, and I embraced the opportunity to learn and grow in this unique and captivating industry.
