Joyful Money Mastery is both a book and online course that offers training in personal finance with a twist. It does not support its students to become rich so they can parade their money around on social media, showing off their coats made of bald eagle feathers as they step out of their Lamborghinis.
Joyful Money Mastery is about developing a money mindset that involves the heart so students can use their financial assets to support them to live good lives, full of connection, belonging, and meaning.
Americans keep getting bombarded with the idea that life is about amassing wealth, even though we have plenty of evidence that boatloads of money don’t guarantee happiness. Let’s flip the script: getting rich is to live a good life.
That means we need to get clear on what living a good life entails for us because only then can we make it happen. This is where Joyful Money Mastery begins.
Students also receive training in a tried and true system of managing their personal finances, where they track their income and expenses, assets, debts, and net worth, and create a monthly budget. Along the way, students receive financial education so they can be confident about investments, buying real estate, and working with a financial advisor.
Joyful Money Mastery provides a holistic approach to personal finances, encouraging its students to have some fun and adventure along the way.
How did you get started?
Rachel was a software engineer for eight years and was laid off in 2023. She hadn’t had much fun in her career, and wasn’t excited to sign on with another company. Instead, she wanted to do something fulfilling and fun.
She was spinning her gears when her friend, also a former software engineer, told her that she found her financial situation overwhelming. With her background as an administrator for a tax accounting firm, a real estate agent, a life insurance agent, and a software engineer in financial tech, Rachel was confident that she could help her, and started writing up some steps she could take. They met weekly to go over her progress. Then Rachel realized her hairstylist had also said she wanted help with her personal finances. She realized it was possible that her work could benefit others.
The steps she wrote became a book. The book became a course. And now, there are more books and courses ready to be made. Rachel also has a strong motivation to help younger people through their own Joyful Money Mastery programs, like for high school and college students.

Rob Kornet and John Baillie have provided not only support but enthusiasm for Joyful Money Mastery. They connected Rachel with a mentor who has plenty of experience in the world of finance who also read the book. With all three agreeing that the book was good, she was floored…and elated!
Rachel loves Rob’s advice to not take on too much at once. He knows she has a ton of ideas, even outside of Joyful Money Mastery. He recognized this can be a stumbling block for her progress because instead of going on a linear path, she can get sidetracked and run the risk of not accomplishing what I set out to do.
