What do you do?

I’m a Licensed Cosmetologist of 11 ½ years and the founder/owner of Shear Passion Hair Studio LLC since 2016.

What inspired you to start your business?

What inspired me to become a business owner was the fact I wanted to create my own space that felt welcoming for my clients while enhancing my creativity and their vision.

What's special about your business?

What I feel is special about my business is that you leave my salon feeling loved and you don’t have to worry about sharing your time with other clients. We offer 1 on 1 service.

What have been the high and low points of being a business owner?

My highest moments have been opening my salon, surviving the pandemic, and achieving 5 years in business as of July 1st, 2021. My lowest moments were trying to stay focused after finding out my father had a heart attack, months later finding out he had cancer, and then his death all in less than 9 months, 2018 was really bad.

What is your relationship with SCORE? SCORE volunteer What influenced you to seek help from SCORE?

I heard about SCORE in 2007 and used their website as a resource to help me start my first business. I have never had a mentor, but I loved what they stood for, and I wanted to be useful to my community and fellow business owners, so I volunteered.

How SCORE helped.

SCORE helped me with templates that I could use and seminars. As a mentor, it helped me enhance my perspective of the business process and the difference of opinions. Also, there is never a wrong way to start a business.

What have you learned from your experiences as a business owner?

What I have learned from being a business owner is that you can never be fully prepared, never procrastinate, pay yourself, put money away for emergencies, always be willing to learn from others, and most of all take some me time.
