Small businesses are the heartbeat of our communities
• Americans have applied to start more than 20 million new businesses within the last four years.
• Small businesses create two-thirds of net new jobs.
• Small businesses account for 40% of our nation's economic output.
• Small businesses are job creators that drive innovation and competition.
According to the Small Business Index, 8 in 10 small businesses say the holiday season is important for their overall profit. Constant Contact reports that most small businesses rely on holiday shopping for at least one quarter of their annual revenue. Entrepreneurs with business plans are twice as likely to obtain capital and more likely to grow than entrepreneurs who don’t.
If writing a full business plan seems overwhelming, start with a one-page Business Model Canvas. Developed by Founder and CEO of Strategyzer, Alexander Osterwalder, it can be used to easily document your business concept.

SCORE Startup Engine Program (SEP)
In addition to our existing one-on-one mentoring and our group workshops, the
Startup Engine Program is being piloted as a THIRD method to serve SCORE clients; a group mentoring program.
You are invited! Join us in a proven program of group mentoring called the
“SCORE Startup Engine Program” (SEP). In just eight weeks, it jumpstarts fundamental business acumen for entrepreneurs that don’t yet have a comprehensive business background. It is a GROUP mentoring program with one Mentor assisting 5-7 program attendees in a team growing a simulated (not real) startup company, then competing in a pitch contest. All it takes is an hour of your time per week.
We believe that anyone can start and manage a successful small business. We also know that the road is harder for some than for others. Diverse backgrounds, different voices and unique needs may call for specialized resources and mentoring approaches. SCORE is listening, recognizes these diverse needs, and provides personalized support in a wholly-inclusive platform called SCORE for All.
Since 1964, SCORE has educated and mentored more than 11 million small business owners and entrepreneurs. We're looking for people with diverse backgrounds and experiences to serve in a variety of roles — from knowledgeable business mentors to local community advocates.
