MCP HVAC, Mihai Popescu
Mihai Popescu's entrepreneurial journey is a testament to perseverance and a commitment to his values. Originally from Romania, Mihai emigrated to Portugal as a young child. At 23, he was selected for the Diversity Visa and came to America to start a new life.
Armed with a degree in business management and his dreams, he was determined to turn his ideas into something meaningful. Today, he is the founder and owner of MCP HVAC, a thriving air quality company based in Portsmouth, NH, known for its exceptional service and commitment to customer and employee satisfaction.
Starting MCP HVAC from his garage in 2021, Mihai focused on his vision of providing top-notch HVAC services while prioritizing the happiness of his customers and employees. Since its inception, Mihai has grown MCP HVAC from a one-person operation to a team of 12 employees operating eight trucks. "I worked my way up starting as a maintenance guy, then an installer, then took a position in sales and service," remembers Mihai.
He enrolled in Granite State Trade School at night and worked at an HVAC competitor for four years. "I learned so much, but I knew that when I created my own company, I would approach the business differently," recalls Mihai.
Mihai's journey was not without challenges. Working long hours and wearing multiple hats, he faced the daunting task of building a business from the ground up. However, with determination and a clear vision, he overcame these challenges.
"The biggest challenge I thought I would have turned out to be the least of my worries. I had more work than I thought I would have," says Mihai. With the rapid increase in jobs, he faced supply chain and staffing shortages.
Mihai credits much of his success to the guidance he received from SCORE Mentors Mike Miliken and Gary Bedrosian. SCORE Seacoast's dual mentoring approach provided him with valuable insights and advice that helped him navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship. With their assistance, Mihai was able to expand his business, hire key personnel and implement essential systems and processes.
"They were extremely good at asking the right questions and making you think critically," says Mihai. "They tracked my progress every month."
For Mihai, owning a business is about more than just financial success; it's about making a positive impact on people's lives. He believes that true success comes from being passionate about what you do and being fully committed to your mission. "You need to have more than a passion for money," explains Mihai, "you need to be passionate about something that is going to make people's lives better."
As MCP HVAC continues to grow, Mihai sees expansion across the Seacoast. He remains dedicated to his core values, ensuring that his focus on customer and employee satisfaction remains paramount.
