Sell, Sell, Sell Symposium Shows Attendees the Ropes

Published October 29, 2011

Broward SCORE held its Sell, Sell, Sell, Symposium today at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. The focus was on teaching small businesses improved sales techniques & how to sell their goods and services locally to national big box companies and federal & local gov't offices & facilities. Congressman Allen West was the keynote speaker.

Jan Wild, the President of Success Through Performance Enhancement, Inc., led a session on successful sales techniques. He also facilitated the Selling to New Customers Roundtable.  Rob Goding, Walmart Market Manager, advised the attendees on how they could successfully sell their goods and services locally to big box stores. Chip Ellis of I.A.U.S.G explained how to get classified and registered as a small business with the Federal Government. Jeff Smith of the Broward Office of Economic and Small Business Development showed how business was set aside for small businesses in Broward County & how to get qualified & registered as a supplier.

Roundtables were also held. In addition to the aforementioned Selling to New Customers, Ernie Cevallos, a SCORE Mentor, facilitated the Selling More to Existing Customers Roundtable. Dave Harris , also a SCORE Mentor, led the Selling Using Social Media to Qualify Prospects Roundtable.

Despite heavy rains there was an excellent turnout. The message was very clear from all the speakers. There is a substantial amount of corporate, Federal, and local government purchasing dollars that are set aside for doing business with small businesses. There is a qualification process with all of these entities. However, once a company is listed as an approved vendor the opportunities for revenue from these sources are real and achievable.
