SCORE Honors Competitive Innovations, a Web & Technology Company in McLean, VA, as a Rising Star Small Business
Washington, D.C.—SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) honor Competitive Innovations, LLC as an SBA Rising Star. Michael Kennedy, president, CEO and founder, received this honor at the SBA’s national headquarters in Washington, DC. The SBA Rising Star program highlights entrepreneurs for successfully growing their business.
Nearly seven years ago, Michael started Competitive Innovations, a Web and information technology solutions provider to government and industry clients. Michael credits his father, Thomas Kennedy, a SCORE counselor in North Falmouth, MA, with providing valuable assistance to helping his business succeed.
Following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Thomas came across information on how to apply for assistance under the SBA Expanded Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Program. EIDL funds help an eligible small business meet operating expenses that it could have met, but is unable to meet, due to the destruction of the World Trade Center or damage to the Pentagon. As a result of the loan, Michael kept the business going and revenues have grown from about $150,000 in 2001 to more than $2.2 million in 2005.
SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, “The advice that Michael Kennedy received from his father demonstrates how SCORE can help small businesses face difficult challenges following a disaster.” Yancey adds, “Entrepreneurs across the country count on SCORE counselors like Thomas to provide high-quality advice and information everyday.”
