Mothers who’ve shelled out big bucks to buy the gown of their daughters’ dreams might be heard shouting “Yes!” when learning of a new shop aptly named “Say Yes to Her Dress.”

The consignment store, which sells gently worn formal dresses at a fraction of their original cost, is set to open Aug. 15 at 7488 Mentor Ave. in Mentor.

The notion for the concept originated a year ago when owners Karen Martin and her daughter Jordan, then 16, were shopping for a formal gown and found a perfect little number tagged with the not-so-perfect price of $330.

The duo left the dress behind and eventually purchased a suitable substitute at a much lower cost.

After the experience, Karen and Jordan discussed the need for an alternative to the dilemma so many girls face while searching for homecoming and prom apparel that often is worn just once and busts budgets as well.

Intent on their mission, they attended a seminar at Burton Public Library on how to start a business and met a representative from SCORE, a nonprofit association that helps small businesses through education and mentorship.
