Every Monday, Post-Crescent Media talks to local business leaders or executives about their company's history, successes, challenges and hopes for the future. Today, Mary Lou Vande Hey, chairwoman of SCORE Fox Cities, talks about the nonprofit organization, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Tell me the story of how SCORE Fox Cities was started.
Tina Dettman-Bielefeldt, SCORE's Wisconsin District Director provided the following history of SCORE.
"The seeds of the nonprofit organization were planted in 1953 when Maurice du Pont Lee of Wilmington, Delaware formed a small business consulting and advisory service. That same year, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Small Business Act and the SBA was created. The act said that the federal government had a responsibility to "aid, counsel, assist and project the interests of small business."
