Fairfield County SCORE Wins National SCORE Chapter of the Year Award
Norwalk, CT—SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” honors Fairfield County SCORE as the National SCORE Chapter of the Year. Fairfield County SCORE earned this award for exceptional growth in the services provided to local entrepreneurs, and the success of its workshop programs and public outreach.
Chapter Chair Elliot Baritz and Fairfield County SCORE were honored by SCORE and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) during Small Business Week 2007 in Washington, D.C.
Fairfield County SCORE provided 3,645 services through counseling and workshops last year—an increase of 39 percent from the year before, and a record year. The chapter works with local libraries, universities and colleges to provide free business workshops, with attendance up 56 percent over the previous year.
Notable success stories include:
- Peter Ferrio, owner of Business Technology, LLC, doubled his revenue each year with business and financial management advice from SCORE Counselors Ruth Kelley and Elliot Baritz; www.bustechllc.com.
- Anne Dolan, owner of Wings Unlimited, Inc., a corporate event planning service, and her daughter Tara received start-up advice, technology tips and growth strategies from SCORE Counselors Bill Hall and Ken Futter; www.wingsunlimited.net.
- Stephanie Mann, owner of W. Laimon Interiors, which provides interior decorating services, worked with SCORE Counselor Elliot Baritz on increasing clients and sales to maximize profits.
- Fred and Shannon Converse, owners of My Tutor and Me, LLC, which offers private, in-home educational tutoring, were given valuable business plan and legal advice for their growing business from SCORE Counselor Ray Wolfe; www.mytutorandme.com.
SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, “Fairfield County SCORE has made a tremendous impact in the lives of local entrepreneurs.” Yancey adds, “The chapter’s volunteers have really helped their community by providing mentoring that helps small business owners succeed.”
The SCORE Chapter of the Year Award recognizes chapters whose expert counselors have exceeded high standards for counseling small business clients. This includes expanding counseling services and programs that benefit local small businesses.

Last year’s winner was Greater Cincinnati SCORE.
