Broward SCORE Volunteers are judges in DECA High school District Competition
Broward SCORE Volunteers today participated as judges at the DECA High School District Competition, a one-day competition, which included events related to entrepreneurship, marketing and sales. As part of the competition, students presented their business plans, and gave marketing and sales presentations. Besides SCORE Volunteers, the event’s judges included staff and faculty members from the Huizenga Business School, as well as Entrepreneurship Council Members. Over 250 students from 18 schools participated.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
SCORE’s judges Carla Dorsey, Kendrick Pierre, Tapan Chakrabarty, David Solomon, and George Gremse evaluated the written business plans. Then each had a number of students make oral presentations to them individually about their entrepreneurial idea for a business. The judges scored the participants on the merits and quality of the business plan and the presentation.
“The students worked hard on this and it shows” said Carla Dorsey. David Solomon remarked “The students at this age are independent, creative, and ambitious when it comes to what they think they can accomplish. That is very encouraging and bodes well for them as they go forward into life and business”.
