The Greater Phoenix SCORE periodically publishes business success stories on its website at www.scorephoenix.org. A recent post looked at an unusual business idea, lighted skateboards, that found a niche and is thriving.
In the article Greg Rudolph, who founded Board Blazers in 2012, states the idea for his company came to him as he saw a student on the Arizona State University campus riding a skateboard with Christmas lights duct taped to it. He took most of his savings and began the company at just 20 years of age.
Rudolph credits SCORE mentors with much of his knowledge required to start the business and make it successful. “Starting a business can be a lonely exercise because we do tire of just bouncing around ideas, but SCORE mentors are always willing to brainstorm, offer a connection and answer questions in a confidential environment,” writes Rudolph.
His company has grown into a huge success as the #1 selling skateboard lighting system on Amazon.com. Lights are sold in all 50 states and in 16 countries. The company has been featured in USA Today, FOX news, KTLA, the Arizona Republic, the OC Register, AZ Tech Beat and the Phoenix Business Journal. Rudolph was named one of the state’s top 35 entrepreneurs under age 35. Board Blazers got an item in Entrepreneur Magazine.
