SCORE is a national organization with more than 11,000 volunteers that helps small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentoring. Founded in 1964, it formerly was known as the Service Corps of Retired Executives.
Aiken SCORE is the group's local chapter, and it serves Aiken, Barnwell and Edgefield counties.
Around 20 people are involved in Aiken SCORE as counselors, and their advice is free. Their areas of expertise include banking engineering, finance, human resources, retail, inventory management and quality assurance.
Aiken SCORE's base of operations is the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce at 121 Richland Ave. E. Appointments are available there with counselors at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday.
