Shirley James is the Principal of Staging, LA Interiors-Consultants, a professional business and lifestyle consultancy firm committed to inspiring and empowering those who seek to transition from employee to entrepreneur.
An expert Interior Designer, Business Startup, and Logistics consultant, Shirley is best known throughout Los Angeles as the Founder and Executive Director of the first and very successful Dress for Success Los Angeles nonprofit (founded as Simply Suited in 1996), an organization that provides interview attire, workshops, and career counseling to low-income and disadvantaged women seeking employment; after her work in the nonprofit world, in 2001, she returned to work at the law firm where she remained until launching her interior design, business startup, real estate and consulting business.
Prior to joining SCORE Shirley had an extensive 25 year legal career as a paralegal and as an investigator for a prominent law firm; she also was trained and volunteered as a Mediator with the Los Angeles District Attorney's office. While still employed at the law firm Shirley began her journey of reinventing herself by returning to school, studying Interior and Architectural Design at both Santa Monica College and UCLA. Shirley loves her career not only because she is pursuing her passion, but also because it affords her flexibility and opportunities to pay it forward. She is a champion for entrepreneurship and for paying it forward through volunteering and philanthropy, and she has received numerous community service recognitions and awards. Her design and space planning work has earned her a roster of satisfied clients throughout the states of California, DC, Georgia, Louisiana, Nevada, and Texas, as well as, a reputation for integrity, reliability, and recognition as one of the nation's preeminent design firms.
