In 1982 I started a wholesale distribution business for eyeglass frames. I imported the frames from China, Korea and Hong Kong and distributed them under my own private label to the trade - optometrists -opticians - ophthalmologists around the country. Initially the frames were sold via telemarketing, and then through a direct sales force of independent contractors. Starting and building a new business entails stress, loss of sleep, hopefully support from family and friends as well as wearing many hats. It can be an exciting and nerve-racking inducing process, but for the motivated and energetic and properly financed entrepreneur who has a business plan that makes sense this is as good as it gets. One of the key elements for the current and aspiring entrepreneur is to not only take care of themselves, but their staff and suppliers and customers as well.
