How I can help you
Since I joined SCORE in 2009 I have worked with a very wide variety of clients from one-person service companies to manufacturers, retailers, restaurants, bars & food trucks, high tech organizations, and not-for-profits in many different industries. The general concepts necessary to start and grow a successful business are not unique to any one type of business although there are obviously nuances related to every business. Part of the reason I enjoy volunteering at SCORE is that I am always learning about new business concepts and innovations. I take a generalist's approach in helping entrepreneurs develop strategies for meeting their goals. I call upon subject matter experts to assist in the more specific needs of my clients and/or point them in the proper direction if they need professional assistance beyond what SCORE can provide.
The concept that I find most helpful to any business is the understanding of its Business Model. This model works for all businesses, large or small, new or old. Businesses need to understand who their customer is, what they are providing that is of value to the customer, how the customer is reached, how relationships are nurtured, and what activities, resources and partners are needed to make all this happen. Once these are identified, the business can analyze its cost structure and revenue streams. A surprising number of businesses, even those with a long history, need some guidance in developing and understanding their business models.
During my time with SCORE I was the chapter chair for 2 years and the author of a biweekly business article in the Tennessean for several years.
