STEAMed Drones, Stevenson Demorcy
Stevenson Demorcy, CEO of STEAMed Drones, came to this country from Haiti when he was just six years old. He remembers growing up not knowing the language, but hungry to learn everything. He thrived in school, especially in mathematics, technology, and education. After college, he couldn’t believe that students from his inner-city neighborhoods didn’t have access to fascinating STEAM topics as he did. He committed himself to making STEAM education available and fun for kids, opening their minds to greater possibilities.
With that groundwork, Stevenson was able to launch STEAMed Drones in 2020. He says, “I’m excited to have created a fun and engaging way to look at education so we can create more visionaries.” His business uses drones with teaching guides and workbooks to help teachers inspire new, more practical, and helpful ways to educate students.“I incorporate all five STEAM disciplines: science, technology, engineering, art, and math, to show how drones can be used for good in society and in education,” he explains.
Stevenson moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles in 2018 to explore his goals and work on bringing them to life. That’s when he met several SCORE mentors who taught him how to write a business plan, conduct market research, and build his website. “My SCORE mentors helped me manage and target my expectations,” he explains. “They set me on the right track and became the team members I didn’t know I had.”
Thinking back on how his SCORE mentors helped him, he says: “As an entrepreneur, over 50% of the things we run into are things we know nothing about. It’s amazing to get two or three SCORE mentors to help you navigate these things so you can grow your business.”
