About the event

Patents and licensing have recently become an integral part of most businesses. Businesses relating to technology, software, design, franchising, sports products, music and a myriad of other companies depend on patents, copyrights and trademarks for their existence. Having the ability to monetize these intellectual assets is now a critical part of the business landscape. Understanding licenses and licensing is a skill that every business professional now requires.

This seminar will explore the fundamentals of intellectual property; how to obtain a patent, copyright, or trademark, how to use them, and how to license these ideas to or from other companies. It will provide a business perspective and will give you an understanding of the terminology, the available resources, costs, timing, and rules of thumb necessary for licensing. Technical, legal, financial and practical issues will be explored, providing a business perspective for estimating patent costs, values and royalty rates. Both US and International licensing issues will be explored.

This two-hour workshop will provide an overview of the field so that you are able to develop an understanding of intellectual property fundamentals and integrate the important elements into your business plan.

Instructor: Dr. Ted Izen

Ted Izen provides consultation on licensing, intellectual property management and strategic planning to individuals and tech businesses of all sizes, up to Fortune 500 companies. He also has extensive experience in international business development and strategic partnering.
