My successes.

With the guidance of SCORE, Demetri won second place in SCORE's 60th Anniversary Pitch Competition held in Philadelphia, securing $10,000 in seed money, which he used to invest in a mobile food truck. This strategic decision allowed The Greek Shack to reach high-traffic events and cater private functions, while also serving as a hybrid brick-and mortar location. Additionally, the mentorship Demetri received from SCORE helped refine his business plan which has been essential in increasing revenue and hiring employees.

The Greek Shack, led by Demetri Patitsas, is a family-owned business that prides itself on servant leadership while emphasizing humility and teamwork. The restaurant's authentic Greek cuisine is inspired by rich family traditions and aims to create joy and connection through hospitality. They employ single mothers, high school students, and others often overlooked. The Greek Shack is committed to being a force for good in the community, providing delicious food that energizes and uplifts.

What inspired you to start your business?

Demetri was first inspired to start his business during his college years when he participated in a program that offered $10,000 seed grants to students. His first venture, a mobile ice cream business, ignited his passion for the food service industry and entrepreneurship. Demetri and his wife were also inspired to start The Greek Shack after hosting countless gatherings with family and friends, where their homemade Greek dishes were always a hit. After gaining extensive experience in small business startups, nonprofit work, and corporate roles, they decided to pursue their dream of creating a business that celebrated their heritage and served their community.

What's special about your business?

What makes The Greek Shack special is the restaurant's commitment to servant leadership and grassroots community engagement. The Greek Shack also offers a variety of authentic Greek cuisine, blending savory and sweet recipes that are cherished in Demetri's family. In addition, they hire often overlooked members of the community, such as students and single mothers, accommodating their busy schedules to create a welcoming work enviornment.
