Mark Hapeman, SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon Mentor

Every day our SCORE volunteer mentors help small business owners, entrepreneurs, and start-ups achieve their dreams of success. This work would not be possible without a steady onboarding of new volunteers willing to impact their community and play a role in the Chapter's future. There is uncertainty about what the economy has in store for small businesses in 2023, but one trend is not in doubt, our clients will need SCORE mentors to navigate the ever-changing trends to adapt to the challenges that lie ahead.

Adding a Diverse and Widely Varied Background to the Conversation

Mark Hapeman earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Kutztown University. He acquired additional education through various business programs to support positions within several organizations over the past thirty years. Mark's varied experience includes Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Leadership Management and Mentorship, Sales Leadership, and Customer Service & Support. Mark is working full-time as a Leadership Coach – Fractional Leader specializing in untangling the chaos of mergers & acquisitions, remote talent restructure, software change, and onboarding for Legal, Accounting, Management IT, and other Professional Firms.

"My diverse background benefits SCORE clients because I can bring operational and business development/sales expertise to the conversation. My experience in both small/mid-size and enterprise companies allows me to provide optimal solutions that fit the size of the client while also meeting their needs."

- Mark Hapeman, SCORE volunteer mentor

"I met Mark when he was interviewing to decide if SCORE volunteering would be right for him. I was impressed with his calm demeanor and empathy toward others. He had mentored people in his previous professional roles. He fully understood how SCORE could help satisfy his desire to help people and build his community relationships. Mark is a "giver" willing to help in any way he can. He is an asset to our organization."

- Paul Trunk, SCORE Chair of Member Services

The Benefits of Giving Back

Completing the rigorous demands of mentor certification and then working to co-mentor and taking on clients while still employed full-time is a genuine commitment to the mission and vision of SCORE.

"I have always enjoyed teaching and mentoring others. In my various leadership roles, I found it most beneficial to elevate the team through continuous learning and mentoring, as it allowed us to all work from a more knowledgeable perspective. Now that I have close to 30 years of working experience, I have a lot to offer new business owners and owners looking to scale their organization from its start-up position.

I also firmly believe that small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, especially local economies. Hence, there is great satisfaction in assisting other local folks to follow their entrepreneurial dreams and create jobs for our economy."

- Mark Hapeman, SCORE volunteer mentor

Mark has not only proved an asset to our clients, but he has also stepped up to offer assistance in other roles at the Chapter.

"I am pleased to have Mark as a member of the Chapter. Mark is a can-do guy. His broad business experience is not only valuable to clients, but he is an asset to the Chapter. Managing hybrid Chapter Meetings is challenging but important in maintaining connectivity with as many chapter members as possible. Mark willingly agreed to help me manage the hybrid meetings by running the zoom part of the meeting. With Mark's suggestions, we are improving the quality of our connectivity and service to our mentors."

- Cathy Bonser, SCORE Chapter chair
