I have extensive experience in strategically and tactically working with owners of over 1000 private businesses at all levels of business development and across most industrial segments. My work has focused on valuing these businesses for multiple purposes including sale, buyout of one or more shareholders, determining the type and appropriate amount of debt and equity, issuing stock and options to employees, and charitable gifting. As part of this work, I have valued the intellectual property (IP) of many of these businesses and helped establish royalty rates associated with the businesses’ IP. The methods used are described in both of my books on valuation- “What Every Business Owner Needs to Know About Valuing Their Business” (McGraw-Hill) and “Principles of Private Firm Valuation” (Wiley).
