The number of women seeking mentorship for their small business is rising gradually and accounts for more than half of all mentorship requests, according to SCORE data.

That’s why SCORE Greater Cincinnati is planning Confluence, a workshop on Sept. 29 at Mayerson Hall on the Hebrew Union College campus. The event is designed to provide female business owners with connections, information, and inspiration for business success. Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval will be the featured speaker.

“As a mentor, I’ve witnessed many woman-owned businesses flourish with sound advice and support through SCORE,” said SCORE Mentor Kelly Dehan. “I’m excited to welcome women who have already been in business as well as anyone who may be simply contemplating the idea. Confluence is going to energize their ideas and inform their strategies for success.”

SCORE is a national non-profit specializing in providing business mentoring. In 2021, 63 percent of the mentorship requests received by SCORE across the U.S. were for female small business owners. That number has risen from 61 percent in 2019 and 60 percent in 2020.

SCORE’s local chapter has partnered with Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber to offer a half-day program with panelists, exhibitors, and roundtable discussions. Speakers include City of Cincinnati Department of Economic Inclusion Community Liason Valaria Cummings-Swope, Park Place Business Improvement Strategies Owner Mary Willenborg, SCORE Mentor Kelly Dehan, and Black Career Women’s Network Founder Sherry Simms.

Confluence is open to anyone who would like to attend and registration is available online at for $35.

In 2021, SCORE Greater Cincinnati provided free business mentorship to more than 1,000 new clients and helped start 224 small businesses, leading to the creation of 504 new jobs.

SCORE Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana Chapter is a nonprofit organization with approximately 100 experienced volunteers who offer free mentoring in all aspects of business development and operations. The chapter offers low-cost educational seminars and maintains an extensive library of business briefs and online webinars. SCORE is the oldest and largest free business mentoring organization in the US with over 12,000 volunteers nationwide who are motivated to give back to their local communities through their support of small business.
