The Cake Studio
Like most in the food industry, we were hit pretty hard during the pandemic. A lot of us had to make the difficult choice to close down. At the time, I was an employee of The Cake Studio, and I was in talks with my employer about taking over the business. When COVID hit, that put a stressor on things. Sunshine Flowers International
Our company has existed since 1986 and has been at the San Francisco Flower Mart since 2008. We are a mother-and-daughter-owned business servicing many loyal customers over the past 30 years. I am a native of Bogota, Columbia, and founded Sunshine Flowers International. In the mid-1980s, I moved to California and completed my degree in Business Administration from San Francisco State University, with an emphasis in importing and marketing. After that, I embarked on importing cut flowers from Colombia. I was the first female business owner and flower importer at the San Francisco Flower Mart

I recently exhibited at the Baltimore Wedding Expo, was on WBAL TV in December 2022 and had one of my cakes featured in the Winter/Spring 2023 Baltimore Weddings magazine.

A Toast to Wine Importers' Early Success
SCORE was with us from the start. Under SCORE's mentorship, we've applied and received our LLC designation, ordered and received two shipments of wine which is now being carried at almost 40 (and growing) retail locations and restaurants in Maryland and Washington, DC, and working our way to profitability. Personally, the success of our business venture has helped us to reconnect as a family, having lived on two different continents for the last 30 years.
