I owned my own CPA practice for thirteen years and then had the experience of merging my practice into a large regional CPA firm. During all those years, my typical client was small so I have no experience in helping clients with more than five million dollars of annual sales. I have experience in helping small businesses set up and operate their accounting systems and in using QuickBooks accounting software, mostly desktop version, but some experience with online QB. Another area with which I am skilled is in helping a new business determine which is the best entity type for their particular situation considering the tax ramifications of that decision. I also can discuss tax situations with the "small" clients. I am one of the founders of the Professional Womens Network (PWN) in Cedar Rapids, IA, which is a non-profit organization.
I have also worked with many nonprofit organizations, both in helping them apply for nonprofit status with IRS and especially with their bookkeeping. Bookkeeping requirements for a nonprofit is much different than a for profit business. I do not mentor clients in the area of borrowing money or applying for grants as the circumstances and rules for those areas have changed a lot since I retired in 1997, so my knowledge of that is no longer relevant. I am an excellent proofreader of business plans (an English major) and I like to assist with the Cash Flow Projection, but I prefer to assist clients in ONLY those parts of a business plan.
