Open for Service was founded to celebrate welcoming businesses and create a network of businesses that serve everyone without discrimination. The nonpartisan, nonjudgmental organization provides a grassroots network that welcomes all races, religions, sexualities, and other differences.
The organization also offers “This Business Serves Everyone” stickers for purchase and display at local organizations; the profits from sticker sales benefit the SCORE Foundation.
Founder Joshua Driver explains that Open for Service “gives businesses of all sizes an opportunity to change the reputation of an area and offer a safe space for people of all walks of life to visit.
The Open For Service directory of welcoming organizations has grown to more than 5,000 members in seven countries. “There are not many organizations that support LGBT rights and include allies,” Driver explains. “The organization has been a key connector to truly promote inclusion.” Driver received the 2015 SCORE Awards Outstanding Diverse Small Business Award.
Driver worked with SCORE mentors to discuss sustainability strategies for the Open for Service and determine appropriate marketing messaging to support the organization’s mission. Driver increased his ability “to protect assets and strategically think about how to become sustainable,” he says. Driver also gained insight on potential pitfalls as his organization scales.
