My successes.

I have started a business and achieved 22% growth in consecutive years.

What do you do?

We conduct cost-benefit analysis and public policy analysis at the state and local levels. Rob Moore is the only member of the Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis in the state of Ohio and Scioto Analysis published the Ohio Handbook for Cost-Benefit Analysis to help people learn how to conduct a cost-benefit analysis. Scioto Analysis is the leading practice for economic analysis of public policy problems in the state of Ohio.

What inspired you to start your business?

I had friends who started a film business out of college, and I figured if they could do that, I could do this.

What's special about your business?

We are a social impact public policy analysis practice, so while we are doing client work, we are at the same time doing social bottom-line demonstration cost-benefit analyses as well as studying economic growth, poverty, inequality, and well-being in Ohio.

What influenced you to seek help from SCORE?

I wanted someone to help me think through how to run a business.

How SCORE helped.

I have been hooked into resources being offered during the COVID-19 crisis that have kept the company afloat. I also have found it useful to have someone to help me in understanding how to run a business.

What's great about my mentor?

She is very kind and supportive and also knowledgeable.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting a small business?

Definitely get a SCORE mentor. This mentorship has been vital to me in getting this business off the ground.

What would you tell a fellow business owner about SCORE?

I think they should! I love my SCORE mentor: she has been instrumental in getting this company off the ground.

How Did Your Business Get Started?

I started my practice in 2018 with the goal of improving public policy analysis in state and local governments. Over the past three years, Scioto Analysis has conducted public policy analysis on topics as diverse as early childhood education, disability services, Appalachian energy storage, adverse childhood experiences, the cost of climate change for local government, and clean fuel standards.
