Local Partners: Resource Sharing, Workshops, & Cross-referrals

The Cleveland Chapter has a cooperative relationship with an extensive group of entities that support small business growth in Northeastern Ohio. These entities often belong to overlapping associations. The following list details these groupings which comprise the local ecosystem for economic development.

  1. SBA and its related partners:

This grouping comprises the local SBDCs at Cleveland State, the Urban League, Lakeland Community College, the Hispanic Business Center, and Lorain Community College and the Women’s Business Center (WBC). In addition SBA’s Community Advantage programs are managed by the Growth Capital Corporation and the ECDI ( Economic and Community Development Institute). Cleveland SCORE also works closely with its fellow district chapters in Akron, Canton, Mansfield and Youngstown.

  2. Cleveland Neighborhood Progress and its related partners:

CNP is a Cleveland based entity that sits between the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County economic development organizations and the local CDCs (Community Development Centers). The Business Growth Collaborative (BGC) is a manifestation of this relationship targeting the black and brown underserved neighborhoods. In addition to Cleveland SCORE and CNP, this group includes Jump Start, ECDI, the Urban League, the Presidents Council ( Black Chamber of Commerce), Ohio Aerospace Institute, Global Cleveland, Cuyahoga County economic development department, and PTAC (Ohio’s Procurement and Technical Assistance Center).

As a result of participating in the BGC, Cleveland SCORE has developed one on one partnerships with several of the CDCs as part of the Chapter’s Community Navigator Program. Currently these include the Harvard Community Services Center (HCSC), Metro West, Slavic Village, East Cleveland, Elyria and Oberlin.

  3. Community Development Foundations:

Cleveland SCORE has strong relationships with the Community Foundation of Lorain County, the Cleveland Foundation and Candid (Foundation Center). These organizations provide leadership and funding for nonprofits in the area.

  4. Other economic development partners:

The Cleveland Chapter has developed strong relationships with The Greater Cleveland Partnership (area wide Chamber of Commerce), COSE (Council for Small Business Enterprises), Jump Start, GLIDE (Great Lakes Innovation and Development Enterprise), Magnet, Manufacturing Works, Lorain County Chamber of Commerce, Geauga Growth Partnership, Lake County Port Authority, the Lorain County Port Authority and the Huron County Commissioners office. The Chapter also cooperates with for profit organizations that are targeting local small business growth such as Goldman Sachs 10k Small Business Program at the Cuyahoga Community College, Key4 Women, Huntington Bank’s Link program and Chase Bank’s financial seminar series.

  5. Client support organizations:

The chapter has developed relationships that can provide follow on services to our clients such as The Legal Aide Society, the HFLA (Hebrew Free Loan Association,), the local bar associations, the Minority Business Assistance Center, NEO Food Truck Association, the Cleveland Community for the Arts and US Together Refugee Center. Finally, the chapter has partnerships with several of the local prisons to provide our services to their soon to be released would be entrepreneurs.
