Maria got her start in health insurance working for CIGNA in 1996 in several roles, including claims processor, Escalated customer service team and Appeals reviewer. In 2006 she was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer and realized that it was time to make a change. Wanting to help people and use everything she learned with her 10 years at CIGNA and her prior years in retail management, she decided to get her Health Insurance license and work with people one at a time.

Maria founded Carolina Health Connections to help simplify the major changes that were created by the Affordable Care Act and to me the process less stressful in 2014.  Prior Maria worked with several other agencies prior, but realized that to fulfill her vision she needed to have her own agency.

Helping people has always been part of Maria's DNA, along with her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology has led her to focusing on helping others navigate the complicated world of retirement preparations. Recently Maria has taken on the role of caregiver for her elderly mother and mother-in-law which has taught her just how unprepared most of us are, even with the best financial planning.

Helen Ruth (HR) Harwell, Harwell Law Firm, P.A.
Is a licensed attorney in NC and AL with over 20 years of experience in estate planning, probate/administration of estates, and corporate and business planning and formation. Her representation of businesses includes formation, dissolution, and drafting and negotiating contracts and the purchase or sale of businesses.  

HR Harwell also represents individuals in drafting estate planning documents including powers of attorney, living wills, wills and trusts using techniques to avoid or minimize probate, reduce taxes, address privacy concerns and designate agents for medical and asset decisions.

HR is a Certified SCORE Mentor and past Co-President of SCORE Charlotte.
