SCORE Central Virginia Hosts Successful Pitch Summit, Empowering Local Entrepreneurs

On September 13, 2024, SCORE Central Virginia hosted its highly successful Elevate & Pitch Summit. a hands-on, one-day event tailored for small business owners eager to take their ventures to the next level. This summit brought together entrepreneurs from various industries for an immersive day filled with interactive sessions, workshops, networking opportunities, and a dynamic pitch competition.

Participants engaged in workshops such as Innovate and Elevate and Building Your Business Network, designed to equip them with practical tools and strategies. Jada Prince, who attended the marketing workshop, shared, "I found a great mentor!" Kanai Rivers added, "The financial training was very helpful." 

SCORE Central Virginia Chapter Chair Cathy Taylor was thrilled with the level of engagement Score had with the many attendees, she commented, “Everyone was an involved and eager to participate. The people picking their businesses did a really great job!  I can’t wait for us to build on this work in the Fredericksburg area!”

The day culminated in an exciting pitch competition, where Arline Gause, founder of GAD Youth Center, emerged as both the first prize winner and audience favorite. Her organization provides academic support and life skills training for students aged 12 to 16 during non-school hours. Arline’s dedication to youth empowerment and her clear business vision made her pitch stand out.

The second prize went to Terrance Saunders, founder of A Father’s Legacy, a community initiative supporting young fathers in their journey of fatherhood. Jada Prince, the third prize winner, is a personal chef and owner of Sassy Chef’s Kitchen, offering tailored culinary experiences.

The summit also provided ample networking opportunities, connecting attendees with SCORE mentors and other business owners. Denise Benedetto remarked, "The day was better than any workshop I’ve ever paid for!"

SCORE Central Virginia continues to offer mentorship, workshops, and resources throughout the year to support small business owners. The Elevate & Pitch Summit is just one example of how SCORE is helping local businesses thrive.
