My Successes

After reviewing and prioritizing projects, I concluded that an initiative to establish an inaugural Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame would be the prime endeavor to focus on. His stated reasons behind formation of the Hall: a) Initiate an annual dinner attracting a nationally known sports figure to speak; b) Pay tribute to those who've achieved greatly on the local sports front; 3) Give to the community, i.e., the Boys & Girls Clubs, and, d) Establish a location for the Hall so that community members may visit and remember the inductees.

The Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Dinner was held on April 20, 2015 at the Double Tree by Hilton, Binghamton and was a very successful event attended by a sellout crowd of over 300

How SCORE Helped

Business Topics: AJQ Sports Management & Marketing produces, manages, and markets sporting/entertainment events, dinners, seminars and clinics.

Entrepreneur Type: DBA/Sole Proprietor

Business Stage: In third year of operating full time

  • In February of 2014, SCORE, working in collaboration with the Broome County IDA, proactively contacted each of the early stage businesses that had been a part of the Binghamton Innovation Center.  The intent was for each of the businesses and SCORE to together determine if there was a fit for the businesses needs and the skills & resources that SCORE had to support these business ventures.
  • Tony Quagliata was doing research in a number of potential business endeavors.
  • SCORE Certified Mentors David Burch & Berdell Boss began working with Tony, to help him determine & then progress his first priority business endeavor.
  • Discussed that it would be best to focus on 1 endeavor, based upon priorities (financial, personal interest, timeframe, risk, etc). Tony agreed to give this some thought on which one should be his top priority.

How I can help you

I’ve always been passionate about promoting corporate clients to a very important external constituency – members of the press. I can help businesses on how to create a great, positive image when being interviewed by journalists, reporters and broadcast correspondents. I’ve spent more than 20 years in public relations – working for a publicly-traded corporation, top New York agencies representing clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies and as a solo consultant, most notably for the prestigious global charity Save the Children. My outstanding track record of securing top-tier placements in print/online/broadcast media were achieved by establishing strong, credible relationships with local, national and international news outlets. Each and every one was instrumental in attracting new customers, investors, employees and vendors/suppliers for my clients. My top-tier media placements include the New York Times, BusinessWeek, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Financial Times, USA TODAY, Red Herring, Christian Science Monitor, ABCNews.com, Orlando Sentinel, San Jose Mercury News, FOX News Channel, Bloomberg Television, CNBC’s “Mad Money with Jim Cramer” and the British Broadcasting Company (BBC). With Weber Shandwick Worldwide, a top global public relations agency headquartered in New York City, I managed media relations and product launches for the agency’s Dun & Bradstreet U.S. account and specialized in writing speeches for D&B’s executives. While at Mecklermedia Corporation, I served as Investor Relations Liaison for the company before their merger with Penton Media. I’ve earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Alfred University. I currently live in Stamford, CT where my hobbies include reading, hiking and travel.

Ask SCORE

A friend and I are considering becoming partners in purchasing an existing, somewhat successful hobby shop. I’ve known him a long time, but we’ve never been in business together. What is your opinion of partnerships?

The partnership has been the foundation for millions of successful small businesses. Unfortunately, it has also been the source for innumerable disputes, arguments, irreparable relationships and lawsuits, all of which exacted economic and personal costs on the people involved.
