          After working in the industry for a number of years, I want to start my own catering business. Conversations with a couple of banks about financing have not been promising, so I’m considering approaching some friends and relatives about borrowing the startup money. I’m considering purchasing a local, long-established dance studio. I have the training and skills to run it, but have never bought a business before. What advice can you give me? 

          Buying an existing small business can expedite one’s way into entrepreneurship. All the upfront effort has been taken care of, as has much of the learning curve. And with staff and resources already in place, you may think stepping in and taking over is all there is to it.

My Successes

After reviewing and prioritizing projects, I concluded that an initiative to establish an inaugural Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame would be the prime endeavor to focus on. His stated reasons behind formation of the Hall: a) Initiate an annual dinner attracting a nationally known sports figure to speak; b) Pay tribute to those who've achieved greatly on the local sports front; 3) Give to the community, i.e., the Boys & Girls Clubs, and, d) Establish a location for the Hall so that community members may visit and remember the inductees.

The Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Dinner was held on April 20, 2015 at the Double Tree by Hilton, Binghamton and was a very successful event attended by a sellout crowd of over 300

  • Discussed that it would be best to focus on 1 endeavor, based upon priorities (financial, personal interest, timeframe, risk, etc). Tony agreed to give this some thought on which one should be his top priority.
