Forum Offers Advice and ‘A Sounding Board’ to Small Businesses in Monroe

In partnership with the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, town Economic Development Commission (EDC) and Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, Greg Bivona, Co-Chapter Chair of SCORE Greater Bridgeport, led a workshop last week for the local business community. He was assisted by Bill McLeod of Monroe, SCORE Assistant District Director.

“We are simply a group of people who enjoy working with, and helping, people to succeed,” said Bivona.

When a couple from the East Coast moved to Columbia, Missouri in 2000, they decided to start a catering company that would highlight the cuisine they knew the best. SCORE helped them create a plan and find Small Business Administration (SBA) funding, says SCORE Mentor Bill Nix. After years of success in their business, the couple recently decided to retire and returned to SCORE for help in selling their company.
