A year ago, Melanie Camp worked long hours as an executive director for a division of Lockheed Martin, one of the nation's largest defense contracting companies.  Today, Camp, 48, employs her corporate skills as the new owner of a bed-and-breakfast in Door County, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan.

She downloaded free templates from SCORE.org to create business plans, spreadsheets and financial statements to help her business get started on the right track.

Marcelo Zelicovich and Rolando Epstein teamed up to create and launch Doctor Aromas', an air freshening system that works through a building's HVAC system.  The duo has landed several big name clients but they were still struggling to successfully market and grow their business to the next level. They hadn’t figured out how to most effectively explain the product and were juggling commercial and residential customers.

Paulus Sutrisna, owner of PS Scrubs in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania said he had a bad year financially in 2010 and considered closing in 2011.  "We just didn't have enough customers and we needed to pay our bills," Sutrisna said. "I was considering closing when my wife told me to call my original business counselor from SCORE."

Austin SCORE mentors help entrepreneurial dreams come true!

Pick of the Planet Garden Center Opens with Help from SCORE

The Pick of the Planet recently opened its new wholesale and retail garden center in Greenland, New Hampshire.

Owner Ellen Mitchell said she turned to SCORE, a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground and supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

"I wanted some professional input and had a great experience with SBA when I first started my business in 1999," she said.
