Responsible for the SCA’s 4-year Mentor Contractor Program in Business Development, which promotes the successful growth and development of emerging MWBE/LBE firms in the construction public sector.  Managed the SCA existing teaching programs and created new learning platforms based on 1-on-1 coaching, evaluations and assessments.     

  • Interviewed, evaluated over 150 mentor contractors and completed the SCA assessment protocol.  
  • Created Action Plans – short-term measurable goals to enhance mentor contractor’s growth in the SCA program.
  • Provided 1-on-1 mentoring – enlisted, encouraged, advocated successful attainment of each mentor contractor’s goals.
  • Train-the-Trainer – coached staff to optimize the mentoring/coaching sessions and the performance of the mentor contractors in the program.

After a half-decade of public work work, re-established Urban D.C. as a leader in the private sector restoration market:

As Director, coached principals in networking, presentation and sales; critiqued proposal submissions/ presentations.  Chaired sales meetings.  Responsible for department’s annual marketing / PR budget.

After the retirement of lead principals and the subsequent loss of market edge in the educational and institutional marketplace, re-established EEK’s former position as a leader in these sectors:           

  • Created a work plan - marketing campaign to re-introduce EEK to clients using  “organic marketing” strategy.
  • Recruited architects with educational design experience to broaden firm’s credentials.
  • Organized speaking engagements for principals at educational events to support sales efforts in education.
  • Introduced principals to decision-makers at NYU, Columbia, Pratt Institute and won design commissions.
  • Presented EEK to the NYC SCA and won SCA task force contracts/ building design commissions.                                                                                              

Through focused marketing initiatives, staff coaching, meetings with educational / institutional decision-makers, EEK made a strong comeback into the educational marketplace.  In 1 year, EEK education sector added 20% to bottom line.

Executive Vice President, EverGreene Architectural Arts, Inc.  NYC 12/96 - 11/03

Represented Owner in all legal, financial, banking, insurance, client, and staff leadership of a 150-personnel firm. Appointed a trustee, signatory, and key employee during tenure at firm.

Built the necessary facilities, financial support and staff required to support new products, services for increased sales:

Met the Owner’s goal to secure a long-term base of operations:

  • Closed SBA Loan, eliminating out of pocket expenditures for large prominent midtown location.
  • Designed/ build-out new facility and lease-ready spaces. 

Secured a reliable, legal, and engaged labor force:

  • Developed insurance and benefits program to hire craftspeople for nation-wide projects / expanding market.
  • Teamed staff to author the firm’s mission statement and employee policy manual. Secured health and pension benefits and initiated programs to educate employees on investing, health, and education for increased retention

Secured working capital to expand, nationally:

  • Established banking relationships resulting in multi-million $$ unsecured line of credit/$10 million bond limit.
  • Created risk-management program / restructured insurance, reduced overhead with added protection/security.
  • Trained accounting dept. to monitor sales, O/H and operational budgets to reduce unnecessary spending/debt.

During tenure, doubled firm’s sales, expanded into an international architectural art restoration firm, and created two successful “spin-off” firms, which included:

§  Partner-in-charge / Creative Director -- Studio EverGreene AKA Studio E, Inc.   NYC 
§  Spin-off of EverGreene Architectural Arts, Inc. (EAAI) created a decorative arts product firm.
  • In record time, authored, implemented a product-driven internal business plan.
  • Designed and packaged the first Studio E’s fine arts product.
  • Negotiated/contracted with national design showrooms within 12 months of formation.

Successful spin-off increased EAAI’s sales 15%.   Sharing overhead, administrative / operational expenses reduced O/H, further advancing the firm’s competitive edge and profitability.  Products are sold internationally.

 

§  President / Director of Operations -- Acanthus, Inc.  NYC 

  • Spin off of EverGreene Architectural Arts, Inc. (EAAI), launched an ornamental arts plaster studio.
  • Negotiated union contracts.  Recruited / hired studio and site personnel.
  • Directed field/studio operations and administrative support staff. 
  • Promoted firm’s credentials to Metro area firms that required expertise in the lost art of ornamental plaster.

Within 2 years, Acanthus’ projects were recipients of the Lucy Moses Awards, NYC and became a sought after plaster studio in tri-state areas; increasing EverGreene’s sales by 20%.
