SCORE Cape Cod and the Islands 2021 Awards Event

With all the difficulties associated with the pandemic, it was even more important than usual that SCORE Cape Cod & the Islands recognize those businesses that have gone above and beyond to succeed. Partnering with the Chambers of Commerce across the Cape, we identified 18 businesses as this year’s outstanding businesses on the Cape and islands.

Small Business of the Year: Greenbird Landscaping owned by Rodrigo Epifanio.
Greenbird Landscaping is an outstanding example of a business that provides exceptional service and grew by delivering the highest quality customer service in the area. Working with SCORE for over four years, Epifanio was able to expand his team to 12 employees and has increased his revenue to over $1MM. He took advantage of every learning opportunity available to him and has seen the results.

Nonprofit of the Year: Lower Cape Outreach Council led by CEO Larry Marsland.
Lower Cape Outreach Council distinguished itself with its consistent and effective outreach to their community. Living by their motto Real People, Real Problems, Real Solutions they moved into high gear during the pandemic, providing over $1MM in food to local households and staving off eviction with housing assistance. Their services are always needed but over the past year, they have met the challenge of even greater needs. Having developed a strategic plan under the guidance of SCORE Cape Cod & the Islands, the Council was well positioned to meet these new goals.

Small Business Champion: BizChecks Payroll owned by Larry Drago.
BizChecks Payroll is the perfect example of a company that understands that small businesses drive the health of our community, consistently supporting those businesses with assistance and working with Beacon Hill to represent their needs. Owner Larry Drago has been a longtime supporter of small business, offering up special or discounted services to businesses in need and ensuring that local and state officials are aware of how they need to support these businesses.

Build A Better Mousetrap Awards

It was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said “build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.” No one recognizes that more than The Cape and Islands’ Chambers of Commerce. They are the lifeblood of the small business community, offering services, workshops, and ongoing support to ensure the development of better mousetraps everywhere. Each Chamber was asked to name a business in their town that had achieved that objective.
