My successes.

Taggart-Powell was able to develop a business plan, launch her store and hire employees. She currently mentors future entrepreneurs and encourages others to, “become an expert of your craft.”

How SCORE helped.

Taggart-Powell attended SCORE’s Straight Talk Conference on two occasions. She also took advantage of some of SCORE’s other offerings including workshops and seminars. Those tools provided a foundation for her to develop a financial plan and marketing strategy. She likes to keep in mind that a business plan, “is a living, breathing, working document,” and that, “any setback can be a set up for a comeback.”

How Did Your Business Get Started?

Alisha J. Taggart-Powell opened her business to honor a relative’s memory. Janie’s Emporium Boutique is infused with the spirit of her grandmother, Miss Janie, and the characteristics she embodied: creativity, inspiration, and a feeling of connectivity. Janie’s Emporium carries carefully curated products including teas, jewelry, and home accents from places around the world such as India, Thailand, and Indonesia. Taggart-Powell emphasizes her store’s sensory experience so customers are delighted as they move throughout the space.
