3rd Annual Women's Event a Huge Success!

Published July 01, 2019

"Best event yet!" That was the feedback we received from the 3rd Annual Women Building Businesses seminar held at Parx Casino on June 19. The seminar was hosted by radio personality, Marilyn Russell, from WOGL FM. Marilyn, who began her career in radio in 1993, is now a key personality on 98.1 where she not only hosts a daily morning show, but also a weekly series called Remarkable Women, which airs every Sunday morning and features prominent women from nonprofit groups all over the Delaware Valley. SCORE Bucks County was featured recently on her show. We talked about SCORE and promoted our event.

Marilyn was the perfect moderator of our panel discussion that featured 5 prominent local entrepreneurs from all different types of business. Her easy, comfortable style was a great addition to the discussion. Panelists included Jen Crompton, President and Owner of Fuel Cycle Fitness; Karen Thompson, a prominent retail entrepreneur from Doylestown who is the President and Founder of LSL Brands; Sunny White, Founder and CEO of Xavier Creative House, a marketing organization that serves pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech, hospital systems, and healthcare companies; Susan Morris, President of Susan Morris Coaching and Maureen Borzacchiello, President and Owner of Creative Displays, Inc., an organization that serves the trade show market. These five women were an impressive and powerful group that answered questions that centered on how they calmed their inner critics and became successful in their own businesses.

Each panelist answered 4 questions that were well thought out and helpful to our audience of 90 women. They not only shared their successes, but also their failures, which made the discussion much more real. Some even told stories about how their businesses were going under and what they did to get them back on track. Real stories from real women who struggled and succeeded seemed to be the key to the success of this event.

Following the panel discussion, each of our panelists led roundtable discussions on topics like Pricing, How to Get What You’re Worth; Understanding the Numbers of Your Business; Confidence is Your Best Accessory; Building Your Personal Brand; Set Yourself Up for Success by Creating Systems & Processes and Where Do You Want to Take Your Business in 3 to 5 Years. Attendees had a chance to go to two round tables. They were all a great success because our evaluations told us they wanted more time in each session. That’s a great complaint!

We also had help from some of our own at the seminar. Georganne Ford, SCORE member of 5 years, led an exercise in networking at the beginning of the meeting with great reviews. Another SCORE success story was Lydia Grossov, who has been a SCORE client for a few years now. Lydia led the roundtable on Setting up Systems and Processes.

Why was this event such a great success? The format really seemed to appeal to the audience. Of course, the panelists and the keynote speaker were exceptional women who blended well together and gave the audience practical, usable advice on “How to Calm Their Inner Critics and Build Their Dreams,” which was the theme of this year’s seminar.
