PS Scrubs - Paulus Sutrisna
Something of a multitasker, Paulus Sutrisna started his business, PS Scrubs, in October 2006, but keeps his day job as a certified nursing assistant
The native of Jakarta, Indonesia, still works a limited schedule at Ephrata Manor, putting in seven days every two weeks, and runs his business mostly from home while entrusting his five employees with most of the day-to-day business.
The store which sells "scrubwear" and uniforms for medical personnel, is in VF Outlets' Blue Building, where it already has expanded into larger quarters.
The moment of inspiration for the store came to him when he was buying a uniform. It was "very expensive," he said, and so he explored the opportunity to provide uniforms at lower cost.
"VF Outlet center gave me the opportunity to open a store," he said. "The first year I got excellent response from people and did very well. The second year, I expanded the store."
Being affiliated with the health care industry, one of the best-performing sectors in the recession, and providing savings for customers have enabled PS Scrubs to thrive even in the downturn.
"This August our sales were 10 percent to 15 percent higher than last August," he said. "we're still dong really well. We've been busy every day the last three months. We're not affected too much by the recession because a lot of people need uniforms."
