Joel and Jennifer Schmidt had operated Joel’s Photography as a successful custom studio portrait service since 1993. But in 2008, given a tougher economic climate, they sought to broaden their offerings to cover a wider range of pricepoints and hopefully stabilize their stream of income. With the help of SCORE mentor Jim Sadler, the pair incorporated a new branch of their company with its own branding of “JH Images” to provide middle and low pricepoint services.
Joel’s Photography started out with just one employee in the early 90’s but has since grown to employ a staff of four. Their service offerings now include Senior portraits, weddings, commercial photography and more.
SCORE mentor Jim Sadler advised the couple on numerous aspects of expanding a successful business including legal considerations, accounting practices, marketing and financing. Ultimately the team decided it was best to incorporate a completely new name of "JH Images" for their expanded service offerings so that they could reach new customer demographics in a targeted way.
Joel reflects on the impact SCORE had on his small business saying, “SCORE has been instrumental as a business mentor and guide throughout the process. With the economic difficulties of the past year, Joel’s Photography might not exist without the expansion allowed by JH Images into new markets!”
