Seeing a vital need in their community, Joan Body and Nancy Amis sought to provide a place for students to “learn, create and share in the visual arts.” Both Joan and Nancy have studied and created art their entire lives, traveling near and far in pursuit of their passion. Now settled in Charleston, they set their sights on guiding others along the same artistic journey of self-expression and discovery.
The Artists' Loft School offers a variety of classes serving everyone from preschool through adulthood and caters to specific needs like homeschooling groups and unique subjects like puppet making. The school is a welcome presence in the Charleston community following recent cutbacks in education budgets.
SCORE mentor, Joseph Conti, helped the duo prepare a thorough business plan which aided them in receiving the startup financing they needed. They also received invaluable advice on every aspect of their business, from accounting and tax considerations to marketing plans and managing human resources.
