| Since 1964, SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” has provided more than 6.5 million aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners with practical, real-world advice for starting and managing a small business. This year, the SCORE Association and its network of 389 chapters in all 50 states and the U.S. territories celebrates “40 Years of Volunteer Service.”
SCORE Builds Legacy of Service For 40 years, SCORE’s mission has been focused on the American dream of small business ownership. SCORE guides entrepreneurs through one-to-one business advising sessions on a full range of business topics. In the 1970s, when SCORE chapters were formed, SCORE expanded its services to offer workshops and seminars on a variety of business issues. In 1996, SCORE ventured online to provide small business advice via email, serving the needs of entrepreneurs on a 24/7 basis. Today, SCORE provides more than 400,000 counseling and training sessions each year, including more than 100,000 counseling sessions conducted by email counselors online. SCORE Volunteers Receive Honors In 2003, SCORE received the first ever USA Freedom Corps award for its exemplary volunteer service to America’s entrepreneurs. This October, SCORE will be honored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) with the Summit Award. SCORE is one of only six associations nationwide to win this honor.
Each year, SCORE volunteers donate more than 1 million hours to operate SCORE chapter offices and serve entrepreneurs. The anniversary and its theme “40 Years of Volunteer Service,” focus on the meaningful contribution SCORE volunteers provide through an advisory service that meets the unique business needs of entrepreneurs. SCORE’s anniversary is an opportunity to recognize the success of small businesses and to pay tribute to the men and women who have donated their time and talent to entrepreneurs nationwide.
