Washington, D.C.—SCORE “Counselors to America’s Small Business” presents the Lou Campanelli Award to Melanie Sabelhaus, former U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) deputy administrator, of Owings Mills, Md. She receives this award for her outstanding individual volunteerism, philanthropic contributions and dedication to entrepreneurship and SCORE.
The Lou Campanelli Award annually recognizes outstanding individual volunteerism, leadership, vision and philanthropy in support of small business, entrepreneurship and SCORE. Sabelhaus will receive the award at SCORE’s Afternoon of Vision 2007 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on April 11.
U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao will attend this event. American Red Cross Chair Bonnie McElveen Hunter, SCORE Board Chair Paul Kopelcheck, SCORE CEO Ken Yancey and Lou Campanelli will present Melanie with the award.

During her tenure as SBA deputy administrator, Sabelhaus served as second in command to SBA Administrator Hector V. Barreto in managing the agency, which has more than 80 offices nationwide. She was responsible for overseeing policy development and program supervision. Since leaving the SBA in June 2005, Sabelhaus has continued to focus her energy on her passion for nonprofits.
She serves on several national and local boards, including the National American Red Cross Board of Governors, the United Way and YWCA. Currently, she is the National Chair of the American Red Cross Women's Initiative. Sabelhaus is a successful entrepreneur with more than 25 years of business and corporate experience.
