Washington, DC—The SCORE Association “Counselors to America’s Small Business” and American Management Association (AMA) announce a national alliance to foster best practices in business management. SCORE, a leader in business mentoring and AMA, a leader in management development training, partner to bring their combined expertise to entrepreneurs.
Through the alliance, SCORE and AMA will seek to raise awareness about the importance of business management and the value of lifelong learning. The organizations will sponsor joint research, develop customized educational programs and expand the small business management “how to” information on their respective Web sites.
AMA President and CEO Edward T. Reilly says, “This unique partnership between AMA and SCORE brings together practical management training and real-world business experience to help small businesses with the necessary skills to succeed in today’s competitive environment. AMA looks forward to this collaboration in assisting new and established entrepreneurs better navigate the unique challenges we are all now facing and help take their performance to a higher level.”
SCORE CEO Ken Yancey says, “General business management skills improve business success. Many entrepreneurs possess a depth of industry and product or service knowledge, but may lack a general business background. Together, SCORE and the AMA bring business management know how and business planning expertise to more entrepreneurs nationwide.”
Both SCORE and the AMA advocate the importance of the business plan for a small business. Yancey adds, “SCORE views management know how as the combination of solid business planning, ethical business practices, lifelong learning and mentoring. Management know how gives small businesses the skills, knowledge and behaviors that they can leverage for business success.”
